TWIST and Pulse became the first ever winners of Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions earlier this evening – but fans insisted that the dancing dogs were “robbed”.

Germany winner Alexa Lauenburger wowed viewers as she put on a show-stopping performance with her eight pooches.

However, she didn’t even land a spot in the studio audience’s top three, with Stavros Flatley and sand artist Kseniya Simonova the series’ runner ups.

Twist and Pulse’s Ashley Glazebrook and Glen Murphy were stunned to take home the crown, with the dancing duo first appearing on the ITV talent show in 2010, where they finished in second place.

They won Alesha Dixon’s Golden Buzzer earlier this series to land a spot in tonight’s final, where they impressed the four judges with a hilarious routine.

The performance impressed as the two men bodypopped to the I’m A Celeb theme tune after channelling Love Island as they chose to “couple up” with Simon Cowell, who dubbed them the “underdogs of the competition”.

The dancers were stunned by their success

Reflecting on their win, Twist and Pulse said: “Auditioning for the show 9 years ago was the best decision we ever made; we never could imagine finishing as runners up.

“To return on BGT The Champions was an honour in itself but to go on and be crowned champions is mind blowing!

“Becoming the champion of champions has been a dream come true. Next year we celebrate 10 years of Twist and Pulse and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”

And while fans at home were pleased to see the stars do well, some couldn’t help but think that 11-year-old Alexa was the true winner from tonight’s final.

The schoolgirl’s act saw her flawlessly dance with her beloved pets to Christina Aguilera’s Candyman.

After organising the dogs into a smooth-sailing conga line during the Champions’ audition, tonight’s act saw Alexa train her pups to jump over hurdles on their hind legs as well as other impressive tricks.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “The little German girl with the dogs was absolutely robbed on Britain’s Got Talent tonight. I am riled.”

Another added: “The young girl with the dogs should have been in the top three!! You try training your dogs to do that, that’s talent!”

A third said: “If those dogs were gonna lose out to anyone, I’m glad it’s Twist and Pulse.”

The Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions final was an emotional night all round, with viewers being moved to tears by magician Darcey Oakes’ act when he opened up about his older brother’s tragic death.

The illusionist used his performance to pay tribute to Bruce, who passed away in 2011.

Elsewhere, hosts Ant and Dec won praise when they paused the show to encourage viewers to open up to their loved ones in a bid to combat depression and anxiety among young people.

Launching ITV’s new Britain Get Talking initiative, this evening’s show also had one set of ad breaks air in complete silence as they asked fans at home to make use of the time by talking to somebody.
